Antonio Darden Won't Cut New Mexico Gov's Hair Over Gay Marriage

Antonio Darden, a gay hair stylist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is protesting New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez’s opposition to same-sex marriage by refusing to style her hair (video below).

Darden told KOB Eyewitness News 4: “The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in. Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.”

“I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone. I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together. My partner and I have been together for 15 years.”

Governor Martinez has said that she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.

@ Stephen Geiger:

Why doesn't the government stay out of our lives? Isn't that their mantra? Why are you and your ilk TWO-FACED in allowing the government to get into our lives with abortion, gay rights and other social issues, but you want the government OUT of our lives, when it comes to "Obamacare"?

You and your ilk are unpatriotic, sanctimonious, two-faced hypocrites!

Hey, if you don't like the way God does things, take it up with Him.

We don't like the way their so called representatives do things. The gods doesn't do anything. It makes us question their existence.

Everything I do, I do it for you.

Marriage can only take place between a man and a woman, which is why these abominations that want to be called marriages now commonly are called civic partnerships. This just falls amazingly perfectly into what I have said all along: the only true crime is tolerance.

I am glad that a governor has stood their ground on the normal practise of marriage, not the abominations that keep demanding to be made legal, for insurance purposes mostly.

I am slightly curious as to why one-tenth of one percent of the world population is dictating to the rest of the world that we MUST accept their "lifestyle choices". Well, I do, so long as they keep it tucked neatly into the confines of their homes and not in my face demanding corporately to become a minority. Unless I did not pay attention in school and university, being a minority, which in itself is a ridiculous practise to label real people, has completely to do with race, not what abominable decision you make in your sexual preference.

If you can not handle the responsibility of these facts, you may want to rethink how your behaviour as one of these people who have vigorously and painfully carved their abominable practises into the framework of our global society. The will be a day of reckoning.

"Marriage can only take place between a man and a woman"

That's your sick, delusional view.

FYI, atheists comprise 16+% of the population and are demanding the rest follow the law and stop being such arrogant jerks.

You should also consider that less than 1% of the prison population are atheists. That should give you a clear idea about the morality of trustworthiness of theists.

I am curious as to why a religion than claims to be about "peace and love" is so intolerant and violent. Is it because you only love those that agree with you? Or is it because you're hypocrites and liars?

Answer the questions. When you ignore them, you prove I am right. While you're at it, prove there is a god, any god. Your other choice is to STFU.

If freedom means anything, it is the liberty to tell others what they do not want to hear.

So, I guess you believe in slavery because that's exactly what your bible says. Lying with another man is an abomination and slavery is OK. Look it up in Leviticus. I assume the use of the word "abomination" relates to your knowledge of the old testament ie:Leviticus.

I don't see why God wouldn't allow governments to add prohibitions on top of His own (e.g. to ban slavery).

But slavery is only permitted with people from other countries. Does this mean I can buy a few Canadians?

If freedom means anything, it is the liberty to tell others what they do not want to hear.

fsilber's picture

Where do you get that it's only permitted with people from other countries? (I've seen this going around on the internet, but not in Leviticus or anything like that.)

True, some of the rules are different wrt Hebrew slaves of Hebrews, but the same word describes both. And I don't think it's clear that even those differences apply to slaves owned by gentiles.

James Smith's picture

That's a good question. I have seen it with the exact biblical reference but I didn't take note of it. I have enough nonsense on my hard drive now. ;)

If freedom means anything, it is the liberty to tell others what they do not want to hear.
